Parthenon may have been the Fort Knox of Ancient Athens

Researchers, including Dr. Spencer Pope from the Department of Classics at McMaster University, have discovered evidence that suggests that the Parthenon may have stored millions of coins. The structure would have functioned as the equivalent of modern day ‘Fort Knox’, storing the precious gold for the wealthy city-state.
